766 LIVES LOST,
(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) NEW YORK, July 1. The heat wave has caused no fewer than 766 deaths throughout th e nation befone it has broken. To-night it was brought to an end by, low atmospheric pressure over the ■Great Plains region, to the accompaniment of cool north winds and showers. » It is unofficially reported that Pittsburgh registered as high as 115 degrees, but Carbdndale in Illinois registered 106 degrees officially, while one hundred degrees Is reported -Jn many States. At Detroit the Ford Foundry had to be closed aftfir 250 workers had been treated for heat prostration.
CANADA’S HEAT WAVE
TORONTO, July 2. Thirty are dead as the result of the hottest Dominion Day ever recorded in Ontario, with the toll rising.
