RADIO PROGRAMME

The whole of lYA’s programme this evening will ae given by the Auckland Orphans' Club Orchestra, under the conductorship of Mr Harold Baxter. This orchestra has previously been heard over the air and vv.li again give a programme that will delight'till classes of listeners. Ihe soloists on the programme will be 'Orphans H. G. Trim (bass-baritone) and Lees Bullot (elocutionist). Of particular interest will be a bell duet to be given by Orphans Hicks and Sharp. 2YA will relay from the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall, the first concert of the IS3I season by the Wellington Apollo Singers, under the direction ot Mr H. Temple White. The part songs, which predominate on the programme, will provide some delightful singing. umerous ever-popular airs will be included. An outstanding feature will be "’lbe Miserere Scene'’ from "11 Trovatore,’’ will) full chorus. Miss Myra Sawyer (soprano) and Mr Dennis Sheard (tenor) will take the solo parts in this number. Mrs Thomas Watson (contralto) will be heal'd in two solos. A duet will be sung by Messrs George Wilson and R 'R. Orr, “Bo Mine the Delight” (from “Faust’;. The major portion of the choral work is weil known to listeners, and includes “The Anvil iChorus” (from Ml Trovatore”) and “The Soldiers’ Chorus” (from “Faust”). The evening at 3YA will 'he devoted to a special programme organised by Idr Ar hnr Lilly, A.R.C.0., a lecturerecital entitled "Music and Health, a Dancing Medley.” Every stage in the programme depicting dancing through all the phases of life in all countries, will be described by Mr Lilly. Hhe programme will be opened by a bugle band a healthy boy’s thrill—and then will follow, either played or sung, such dance tunes as an English maypole song, a hornpipe, an English sea song, a Cornish May dance, French Italian and Spanish dances, such others as “Bambahna” and “Anitra’s Dance,” and dances from “Rose Marie,” “Faust” and “The Merry Widow,” “Flovodora,” "The Gondoliers,” “Carmen” etc., not forgetting one from iNew Zealand, “Waiata Poi.” The choir from the Holy Trinity Church, Avonside, and the Studio Octet will assist. Silent day at 4YA. -FRIDAY, JULY 3rd. Much variety will mark the programme for IYA this evening. Mr W. Coleman (tenor) will sing a group of songs that were popular twenty or thirty years ago. ssrs <K. Waters and 'Ray Jury w:D give several numbers for piano and xylophone, while 'Mr Purdy, together with air Peter Black, will he heard in a number of whistling solos and songs at tilt* piano. An item of interest will be r 0. Roland’s ’ performance on the phono-fiddle. The Asquiths are again appearing in one of their twenty-minute drawing room entertainments. The 2YA- concert will be of a varied nature. The Orchestrina, under Signor A. P. Truda, will be heard in the overture “Raymond,’’ the intermezzo “An Bays die Amours,” the gavotte “Rendezvous,” the selection "On with the ’Dance” a valse iente, “Dream of Heaven,” and a tango. All* Stan. Williamson, an exponent of the banjo, will again delight listeners. The vocal portion will be in hands of the -Lyric Quartet and Miss 'Muriel Jones. The latter will be heard in a budget of popular songs at the piano. The Christchurch Saxophone Band. I under Mr Glaysher, will make its initial J appearance in radio this evening when . it will present a programme at 3YA. It! is a well trained combination of sixteen I players. Miss L. <M. .Miller, mezzo- 1 soprano, will be heard in “By the Waters I of Minnetonka,” "Pale Moon” and “She i Wandered down the Mountain Side.” Mr Jaimes Smith (bass) a Scottish singer* making His first appearance before the ; microphone, will also sing. Mi ss Maisie ' Ottey, pianiste, will play light classics, j -Some fine quartettes by Miss Lettie 1 de Clifford, -Miss Betty Hamilton and j iMr J. E. Davies and Mr E. Bond, will | be presented during 4YA’s concert. A j number of Lauder items will be given j bv '.vlr Brown. Squire’s ‘'■'Slumber Song” I will be played as a ’cello solo by Mr T. | Law. The instrumental programme by | ALr Pettjtt’s Sextette will be mainly, "xcerpts from popular musical comedies.!
