A POINTED REPLY. (Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, July 1. In tli© New South Wales Legislative Mr T. Bavin', Leader of the Opposition, asked the Premier, Mr Lang, whether he proposed to make a statement to the House on the financial policy of the Government. Mr Lang replied: The Government’s financial policy is well-known, but under the constitution, as it is, my Government is unable to carry it out. THE REASON WHY. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 2. The fact has leaked out that the reason for prompting the Governor to suggest a round table conference of political parties cabled yesterday, was that Premier {Bang ha.l asked for sufficient political appointments to the Upper House to enable him to carry his legislation. Sir Philip Game refused, and suggested alternatively a round table conference, which the caucus rejected. The incident is now responsible for a political scandal, which originated in the Assembly to-day, when Mr Bavin asked Mr Lang whether he would produce to the House the correspondence which passed between himself and the Governor.

Mr Lang replied that he had no objection and would ascertain whether his Excellency would give his permission. The Governor freely assented, with the result that Mr Lang to-night, released not only the correspondence 'associated with this incident, but the whole (orrespondence, some of them con fidential documents which, passed between Mr Bavin when Premier and the Governor, relating to recommendations for honours.
