A HARD CONTEST

DUNEDIN, June 29

The wrestling season opened in Dunedin this evening with the bout in the Town Hall between “Sec-tty ’ McDougall (14.3) and Stanley Pinto (14.0). The two thousand people peseni saw one oi the finest displays of hard wrestling given in this city to date, each man securing a fall, and tiie verdict going to McDougall on points.

Pinto pinned his opponent in the fourth round, after hurling him to the mat with a back slam, and he tried' the same tactics in the seventh round, but McDougall, who was the fresher hung on, and, bringing the American to the mat with him, forced his shoulders to the mat.

The final round was characterised Tty fierce wrestling, but McDougall, who was the aggress -r throughout, secured the verdict, which was a popular one.

KARA PASHA BEATS DEMENTRAL. WELLINGTON, June 29. At the Town Hall to-night Kara Pasha “The Terrible Turk,” defeated Harry Demetral, the Greek, by a fall secured from the Turk’s speciality hold, a Boston crab, in the/ sixth round. Pasha arrived, by the Maungnnui from San Francisco early this morning in company with Ivruse and Burseli, two more imported mutuum, under contract to the Dominion Wrestling Union. Kara Pasha gained the “Boston Crab” hold after several attempts and he then forced Dementral to submit. The hall was filled to its capacity. The audience was a demonstrative one, applauding both wrestlers.

A WRESTLING BOUT. CHRISTCHURCH. June 30. There was a sensational ending to a wrestling match in the Civic Theatre last night between Tom Alley, the, Mormon wre-tier, and Peter Limutkins the giant Finn. In the third round Limutkins forehead was gislied open by coming in contact with Alley’s knee. The wound bled freely and Limutkin was so badly dazed that the limit- was stopped and Alley was declared the winner.
