CONFIDENCE TRICK

ALLEGATION FROM WANGANUI. WANGANUI, June 26. At the Winter Show to-day Robert Ireland, of Gonville, is alleged to have been persuaded to draw cheques for amounts totalling nearly £2OO to purchase an interest in a dart-throwing game. The show secretary tried to interevene at one stage, but it is said Ireland was confident that everything was clean and above board. Later in the day he became suspicious and tried to stop payment of the cheques, but was too late.
