WAGES TAX BILL

lit was reported to-night that a majority of the Legislative Council will defer consideration of the Wages Tax Bill until Mr Lang discloses his intentions concerning the manner he will carry out economies under the Melbourne Conference Plan. Alternatively they will throw the measure out.

COMMUNISTS DISTURBANCE

Communists in the Domain to-day caused an ugly disturbance but the police acted swiftly and arrested four, and kept a huge crowd at bay with batons.

A large fire occurred at Mclllraith's grocery and provision emporium, a six storeyed building, in the danger zone in Pitt Street, Sydney, early this morning. The premises were almost gutted. The firemen had a desperate job in preventing the flames from spreading to other large department stores nearby. One fireman was injured by falling debris.
