FOOTBALLERS INJURED.

CHRISTCHURCH, June 27

Two footballers who piayed at Hagley Park this afternoon received injuries. K. Bradbury, of 153, Park Road. North Beach, suffered injury to his right leg, and K, Cotton, or 33, Maudeville Street, Lower lliccarton, received injuries to his shoulder. A ter treatment at the Christchurch Hospital both players were able to proceed to their homes.

He complained that he had been assaulted and robbed of £l3, while he had no idea of where the assault took place.

Stmt ley Wilfred Hancock, was engaged yesterday adding a length to a hollow piping of his wireless mast at home when the mast snap red and struck l.m on the head. He id not feel any illertect, hut about two hours afterwards collapsed and died. Hancock was aged thirty-one and was born in Thames. He was a railway employee and leaves a widow and three children.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM

WANGANUI, June 29

One of the worst thunderstorms ever experienced in Wanganui occurred last night and caused considerable interruption to the lighting system and telephones. Lightning struck a wireless aerial at the residence of D. Hayes, on Fox Road, shattered all the windows in the rear portion of the house and also shattered the electric meter of the house next doc-r and the windows at the rear of Copley’s store adjacent.

A further report of damage by lightning comes from Wanganui east from the residence of ,1. Hay. At 2 a.m. when the house rocked in an alarming manner the radio set was blown to pieces and the crockery shattered, Also it large hole was’'rnatfe*hi 'th'e''front gardoll and mod was splattered in all fli» actions.

DUNEDIN, June 29. Nine planes of the New Zealand Air Force, comprising 2 flights from Wellington Squadron and one from Otago arrived from Christchurch on Saturday afternoon on periodic squadron training, against a head wind. The flight took 4 hours.

A flight to Cromwell yesterday and to Invercargill to-day were planned, but atrocious weather with thick snow, compelled the abandonment of the flights which were impossible to-day with 4 ■inches of snow. V» nen the weather clears the ‘Wellington squadron will go north.

DUNEDIN, June 29

A constable investigating a ear standing at the blind end of Sturdie St. on Saturday night found John Betsey, a taxinmn, lying unconscious on the car sent with a badly battered head. Mystery surrounded the affair till Belsey regained consciousness in the hospital after which detectives visited a crib near Brighton arresting a young man, who will he charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

It is stated Belsev left for Brighton with a passenger at 7 o’clock on Saturday evening and the latter left car to visit his bach returning and entering the rear seat with a remark that the girl he was escorting would be ready in a few minutes.

Belsev sat reading when suddenly he received a heavy blow knocking him unconscious. His assailant, then it is alleged .drove back to Dunedin abandoning .the car and the man in a blind street.

THEFT CHARGE

CHRUSTCHITROH, June 29

“There will he farther charges and some hundreds of pounds may be involved.” said Counsel for the informant. when Robert John Munro, a tailor. fifty-six, of New Brighton, appeared before Mr Mosley S'.M. on a charge of theft of £'9 the property of the firm of Munro and Hick in bottom, on December 24th. 1930. Munro was arrested by DeteotiveSergt. O'Btien on Saturday. A remand was made until July 7th. Bail was renewed in £IOO and one surety £IOO.
