WELLINGTON, .June 25
The Commissioner of Police ini a Gazette notice issued to-night authorises that ammunition ordinarily used for sporting rilles may be procured or delivered without a permit in any part of the Dominion.
REFORM CANDIDATE
RANAEVTRKE, June 26.
A large meeting of Reform supporters asked Marcus D. Smith, (Mayor) to accept nomination as Reform candidate for I’ahiatua electorate. Air Smith stated he was endeavouring to make arrangements in regard to his private business, and would give an answer in a Fortnight. The meeting passed a unanimous resolution to be forwarded to Mr Coates, that fusion at the present time would not be in the best -interests of the Dominion.

AVATERS'IDERS REFUSE OVERTIME
CHRISTCHURCH. June 26,
Lyttelton Waters:decs' Union surprised local Shipping Companies late yesterday afternoon by refusing to work any overtime after 5 o'clock, thus delaying a number of vessels in port overnight. It was the general opinion of persons connected with shipping, that'the action of the wntersiders was a protest against the recent cut in wages.

UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT AT
ROBBERY
AUCKLAND, June 24
With his face masked, a man attempted to hold up a bus driver in the main street at Birkenhead yesterday morning. The man displayed no weapon. but kept his right hand concealed in his coat pocket. By 'brandishing a heavy waddy and keeping an electric torch focussed in the man’s face, the bus driver was able to keep his wouldbe assailant at a distance and he gave him no chance of grabbing the money
