Green formerly of the Onderstepoort Laboratory, has discovered in the Transvaal a plant bulb containing a poison so deadly that a small tity would be sufficient to kill 10.0UU ftien. It is said that white railway labourers near Piennanrs River dis* covered tho bulbs, and one of them who tasted a bulb began almost immediately to foam at tbo month and died in hospital. l)r. Greene ordered two natives to slice up a number of the bulbs, and both men became unconscious from the fumes. Tim doctor is reported to have stated that the poison would he untrace,able after death. 'The scientific name of the bulb is given as “Adenia.”
