RADIO PROGRAMME

THURSDAY, JUNE 25th. This evening, IYA will relay a concert to be given by the Leys institute Orchestra, under the conductorsh-p of .ur Harold Baxter. The accompanists wui be i.VLiss l'hyllis Graham, and the l.ader of the Orchestra, Master Harold iaberner. The soloists for the evening will be .Miss .Molly Atkinson, the well known mezzo-soprano, and '.Miss Jean ■Clarkson, who wdl be heard in both piano and ’cello solos. A Studio concert by the Singing Circle of the 'Wellington Pioneer Club, under the direction of Mrs Ginn, will he broaucast by 2YA. Previous programmes by the club have been well received by listeners, and on this occasion should again be most acceptable. Augmenting the items by the ladies oi the Singing Circle, will be solos by .Mr Denis Shtard and .Vlr S. Evelyn Rodgei The Salon Orchestra, under Mr M. T. Dixon, will supply the instrumental portion of the musical programme. Miss Frances Humerton, 3YA soprano, will be accompanied by the Studio Octet In her songs—three solos from the "The Yale of Arden” and the waltz “Pr-int-emps." Mr Finlay Robb wdl be heard in bass solos. The orchestra] programme will include the "Coriolamis’’ overture and a grand opera selection “Lucia di Lammermoor.’’ During the evening, Mr Te Ari Pitarua, Maori lecturer, wdl give the second series of talks on Maori foods. A new artist is making an appearance on lYA’s programme this evening, -Mrs E. Budin mezzo-soprano, and she will be heard in several outbids. The Orchestrina, under Signor A. P. Truda, will present an attractive programme. Excerpts from Oscar Strauss’s "‘A Waltz Dream” and from Talbot and Finck’s “My Lady Fravle" will comprise the vocal numb, rs at 3YA. The singers will be Miss Addle Campbell and the Salon Quartet. Two-piano items will be played by Miss Maisie Ottey and Miss iL. iM. Miller. There will be humorous numbers by Mr H. Instone, ’cello items by ’Mr Harold Beck and twos by the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio. The concluding half hour of fhe evening's programme will be devoted to a gramophone lecture-recital by Air Karl Atkinson, on “Monarchs of the Key-Board.” An interesting attraction on 4Y.Vs programme will be a half-hour’s recital of “Old English -Songs” (of the Victoria era) by Mr John T. Leech assisted by Miss 'Maude Kenward and IMiss Muriel Caddie, L.T.C.L. A short description of each song will be given. Contributing to the remainder of the programme will be Miss D. Stentiford (contralto), the Lyric Four (a male voice quartet), Mr Lester Moller (humorist), Mr E. J. Andrews ’(xylophonist) and the Bluebird ■Hawaiian Trio.
