M. SERRE RETIRES
CONSUL AT AUCKLAND. [ (AUCKLAND, June 21. ' M. Paul A. Serre, Consul for France ; in New Zealand and its dependencies, has reached the retiring age. Me will he succeeded at the end of the month by M. Edouard M. V. M. Joubert, win, has recently held the post of French Consul at Prague, Czecho-Slovakia. M. Serre arrived in Auckland » little more than eight years ago. He had previously held consular positions in Cali.ornia, China, Java, Cuba, Porto Rico, Uruguay, Brazil, Trinidad, and Costa JLica, and his period of service now covers 35 years. Me is 61 years ol age, and will receive a pension of about LIOO a year in his retirement. M. Serre has been elected dean of the •Consular Corps in Auckland three times in succession. Fifteen years ago he was elected dean in Port of Spain, and he lias had a distinguished career. He holds eleven distinctions conferred on him by different Governments. M. Joubert is 49 years of age and has served at Bremen, Rotterdam, ami Prague. He has been in Prague for 12 years. Like M. Serre, he is a Chevalier ol the Legion o. 1 Honour, lie also holds the French military distinction, the Croix de Guerre.
