McDOUGALL BEATS ALLEY. AUCKLAND, June 22. The Auckland. Town Hall was packed last night when Scotty McDougall, the Scottish grappler, defeated -Tom Alle.y the Mormon ' matman, lightheavyweight champion of the world, by two falls to one, in a professional wrestling contest. The bout which was one of the best contests seen in the Auckland ring for some years, was fast and furious throughout, and ended sensationally in the sixth round, Alley being completely knocked out and McDougall having 4 just enough strength left to crawl across the ring and lay ove>- his. opponent’s chest to gain the deciding fall. Mr Len ‘Wilson was referee.

McDougall wighed in at 14st 31 bs and Alley at 14st. Both men came into the referee’s hold at the. commencement of round one and Alley brought his man to the mat with' nfwristlpek to secure a head scissors and armbar. McDougall escaped, and with three or four bend locks In quick succession, had Alley in trouble. Alley tried" to apply his famous crucifix hold, but Scotty was too wary and countered with a splits. Alley heldi McDougall in a key-lock for some time, and’ when he escaped, Alley threw him round and - round the ring with head looks which hod McDougall groggy. However the Merman failed to push home his advantage, and was securely held in a short-arm scissors at the gong, McDougall rushed in-at the commencement of the second round and threw Alley round the rjng with a series of headlocks, but,'the Mormon brought Ip s man down with a double wrist lock, and applying, a bodyscissors and face, bar, had him in. trouble. McDougall however, bucked an- kicked out at it and rushing .Alley brought him to the mat hard with a double wrist-lock,, and with a body press secured a 'fall, amidst tremendous exictement. The bout, was going-at'a very fast pace-and. the crowd were on their feet’ throughout'.' Found ili’ce opened with Alley getting a reverse full-nelson on McDoutgall, but the latter applied a short-arm scissors which gave liis opponent some difficulty. Alley roused the crowd by \ throwing McDougall hard with a succession of head-locks and be then applied a short, arm scissor?, but McDougall bucked out of it, and secured a good cradle-hold on his opponent. Both were working very hard; and Alley after bringing .McDougall .to the mat got his chance. He applied his famous crucifix hold about a Yninute before the end, of the round’ ; Scotty encouraged by the.9houts of his numerous supporters hung on. till the bell but he wns very tired as he went' to his corner.. ’• 1 :•’

Alley came in to finish McDougall .at the gong for the commencement of the fourth roun and 1 bringing his man to the mat with a head'lock, .tie again applied the crucifix and an annhar. He rolled McDougall' all rouhd the ring and Scotty after vainly .trying to buck out, gave, in, and. a submission fall was awarded to Alley.

Early in the next round Alley . with a body-scissors and arm-bar had \McDougall in trouble, but ■he eventually worked his, way out of it, and applied a short-arm scissors. On escaping from this Alley gave McDougall some punishment with headlocks and; 1 side chanceries. Both men were now roughing it a bit. At the conclusion of the round they were in the referee’s hold. McDougall rushed across the ring at the gong for the next round and threw Alley no less than five times with powerful headlocks. He seemed to he concentrating on Alley’s head. However, Alley soon retaliated, and gaining the mastery tossed his man ,with fierce headlocks until he was froggy and then each time McDougall rose from the mat, Alley picked hijn • up and slammed him down hard again. McDougall was in a bad way and held on to the ropes at every opportunity. However, Aliey became too reckless. He rushed in carelessly and McDougnL almost exhausted tossed him backf&d Alley hitting the back of his head.-Ton the mat, was knocked completely Tout. McDougall amid the wildest excitement, recovered sufficiently to crawl slowly across the ring 'and''laid oyer Alley’s chest, to force his shoulders to the ma't, and gain the deciding fall. It was a very popular win and McDougall received a great reception as he left the arena.
