FOOTBALL.
WEST COAST RUGBY UNION. Tin* Committee met at Grey mouth last evening. A circular was received from the New Zealand Rugby Union asking that nominations of players for the South Island team be forwarded by August'4th.—The selector was empowered to make any nominations he considers fit. * It was decided that the Excelsior Club be requested io return two representative jerseys loaned by the Union. Mr L. Dewe, referee of the Cobden A. v Kumara match at Kumara, reported having occasion to order off V. Pierson, a Kumara player, for trip* ping an opponent.—lt was decided to place Pierson on the caution list.
C. Pfahlert and C. Moffit, the two players ordered off during the Rivals v. United match at Kumara on June 13th., reported as requested. Pfahlert stated that when coming through « tight place lie ran into Moffit. and accident;! Ily hit the latter with his elbow. Evidently,; stated Pfahlert, Moffit considered be had been struck intentionally and be (Moffit) bit him on the chin Pfahlert maintained that he did not retaliate, Moffit reported that Pfahlert had been very abusive all through the game and when tackled hard by him., be f Pfahlert) had bit him on the nose. Moffit stated that lie promptly retaliated. Mr. Ryan said both men bad been very clear 'in their statements. They both lcgi-etted the incidents' and had shaken bands afterwards. On the motion of Messrs Guy and Eggleton it was decided to place both players on the caution list. The Chairman' stated that the proprietors of the Black and White Whisky Distilleries had donated eighteen caps to the winners of the senior c'omnetifjon. The caps, to be known as “Tlie Elack and White Caps,’’"are to, be presented annually, hut if « team wins t|ie championship two years in succession, those players whv> received cans in the previous year are to return them to the Union to he dated. News caps wi” he issued to new players. The caps would prove a. very fine trophy. The Chairman said
