POPE’S PROTEST
AGAINST FASCISTS. [United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.] ROME, June 21. “Tt is not only in Russia and Mexico that the Church is being persecuted,” said the Pope, when addressing seven hundred members of the congregation for the Propagation of the Faith. “Far from there being an attempt to restore tranquility in Italy, there were efforts being made to maintain a menacing horizon. Nine thousand Fascists, he said, had been call’d out to prevent youthful members of the Catholic Action party from meeting, even in silence. The Bishops’ reports disposed a hateful intensification of watching and spying, and,also continual threats disturbing the life of the community.
