An accident happened on Sunday afternoon on Lake Kanieri road by which a young man named James Conroy. of Beach Road, Kumara, received slight concussion. He was aboard an empty lorry on the way hack from the Lake, when the lorry swinging round a sharp turn in the road threw the young man off the vehicle with the result that his impact with the ground caused him to lose consciousness, as the result of his head striking the ground heavily. The driver of the lorry, which had come from Kumara, at once brought the injured man to Westland Hospital for treatment, where it was found his injuries were not of a serious nature. The lorry driver was apparently in such a hunv t > reach the institution with his burden, that he almost caiised another accident, driving up the hill at Westland Hospital and turning at such a furious pace, that he almost ran over a little dot that was on the roadway at the top. a miraculous escape that caused onlookers,of the scene to lose a heart beat with anxiety. Only that the child moved a few steps just at the critical moment, saved what would have been a fatality, as no one was close enough to do anything, and the lorry would not have been able to stop in time or pull out of the way. Tt would appear that one accident as a result of what apparently was an excessive pace, should have been enough for one afternoon, but such a pace in the Hospital ground, at all events should positively he barred, where weak and infirm persons are to he met at all times.
