ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES
FOUND DEAD. (By Telegraph-- —Per Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, June 18. Bernard McKenzie Smith, farmer, of Waitoi Peaks, near Hawarden, was found early this afternoon lying on the ground at Mason’s Flat, with, a gunshot wound in his chest. He died half an hour later. A shot gun was found near him. INQUEST VERDICT. CHRISTCHURCH, June 18. A verdict of suicide by gas poisoping, was brought in by Coroner E. D. Mosley, at an inquest this morning into the death of Andrew Jack, a West Coast miner, who was found dead in a shed at the rear of the house where lie boarded at Christchurch. Jack had been out of work, and he was short-of money. He was in arrears with his board. His landlady had told him that he must pay at least a part of the money due, or must leave. This morning the man was found in a shed with a sack over his head, and an open gas jet inside the sack. He had been dead for some hours.
