THEFT FROM CAR
MECHANIC SENT TO GAOL. AUCKLAND, June 13. The theft of a suit of clothes valued at £2 was admitted by a mechanic, John Henry Gill, aged 31, at tlie l’olice Court tj/is morning. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said that Gill stole the suit from a parked motor car on May 23 and sold it to a man Tor 10/-. The purchaser immediately resold the suit to another man lor £l/o/~. Gill recently came before the court, when lie was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence on another charge.
Mr Noble, who" represented Gill, pointed out that tlie offence had been committed prior to his last appearance in court. Gill was able to make restitution if given another' chance. Mr Kelly: Why, he’s living on charitable aid!
Mr Hunt: Well, he will live at the expense of the public for a while now. ,l’m not going to have men robbing motor cars like this. One month’s imprisonment.
