(By Telegraph—Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 17. ■ The dispute between the shipping companies and the 'Cooks’ and Stewards’ Union ended to-day with, dramatic suddenness. At a meeting this morning,;' the men decided to sign <m the new articles which embody a ten per cent, reduction in wages pending the result of the application which they have filed with the Arbitration Court, askiug for. their exclusion from the Court’s general order. As a result of the men’s decision, articles are being signed on all of the chips affected. SHIPOWNERS’ ATTITUDE. WELLINGTON, June 17. Mr E. Kennedy, Secretary of , the Union claimed that in the present dispute the employers have gone back on the attitude of their representative at the Arbitration Court, and had endeavoured to maintain that an award was a binding contract of service. (■Thus, when thesmen had refused to accept a ten per cent, reduction in the wages, they were given 24 hours’ notice of dismissal. 1 It looked, said Mr Kennedy, as, if the employers talked one way before the Court, and \xpve now taking the reverse way.
