RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z.'Ltd.) . WEDNESDAY, June 17th. The Birkenhead Municipal Band, under the conductorship of Lieut. J. T. Lighton, will provide a programme for IYA this evening. The Clarion Quartet will provide the vocal programme which will be of a miscellaneous nature. Among the concerted numbers will be “Dear Little Shamrock,’’ "Over the Garden Wall,” “Tired” and “Departure.” Tne duets will comprise “Watchman, ‘ What of the Night,” and “Bird Songs at Eventide.” During the presentation of the International Programme at 2YA, the lecturer will be Dr Guy H. Scholefield, 0.8. E. Ah inter-city debate by teams representing the W.E.A. of Christchurch and W.E.A. of Dunedin, will be broadcast ’by 3YA and 4YA. The subject will be “That the Democratic Control of the State has Outlived its usefulness. -r This .will occupy the first half of the evening’s programme. In the second half from 3YA, the Valencia Quartet will sing several popular concerted numbers, and the second half of 4YA’s programme will be provided by Aliss E. Watson (contralto), Mr F. E. Woods (bass) and Mrs C. Drake (pianiste). THURSDAY, JUNE 18th. The Auckland Savage Club Orchestra,
under Mr Archie Don, will provide a studio concert at IYA this evening. Great variety will mark the programme. 2YA will relay from the Y.M.C. A. /Hall a concert to be presented hy the Orpheus Musical Society, under the conductorship of Mr Hai'ison .Cook. The first part will be the vocalisation of “England 'Expects” By Hubert Batli. The numbers included are descriptive of various phases of the battle of Trafalgar. The second part will be the presentation' of 'a pastoral, “The May Queen,” by Mr Sterndale Bennett.
Professor IK. G. Zimmerman will make his next appearance at 3YA this evening, when admirers of tins fine violinist will have the opportunity of hearing him playing works by Wagner, Wieniawski, Schumann and Handel. The. vocalists for the evening will be 'Mrs J. A. Edwards (soprano), Mr J. 'A. Blythe (tenor) rod IMr F. C. Penfold (baritone). Among the items by the"* Studio Octet will be 'Mozart’s “L’linpressario.”
