HUTT FLOOD
ROAD AND BRIDGE DAMAGE. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 13. Warm rains on heavy falls of snow on the .ranges caused the Hurt River to rise last- night, with the result that further erosion took place in Taita Gorge, on the main road to Wairarupa. There is now a bare twelve feet of roadway at the narrowest part between the edge of the water and a high bluff on the landward side. The protective work, which was going on. is not badly affected, as the damage is taking place above it. There is serious prospect, however, of another Hood severing communication. WELLINGTON, June 14.
Rain during the past two or three days has been steady in the hills, and the Hutt River has again Hooded. Some of the low-lying lands in the valley have been covered with water.
Some bridges on the Akat-arawa Road have, been damaged in the Taita Gorge. The scouring of the river road to Wnirarapa, which began in the bi t big flood, has resumed, and the workmen are finding it difficult to keep the way open for traffic.
