UNEMPLOYMENT FUND
FURTHER MONEY NEEDED. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. June 11. The Parliamentary Labour Party hotel a special meeting to-day, to consider the first report of the Royal Commission on unemployment, benefit. The Prime Minister ami Mr Henderson both made statements. .Several questions were answered, and the meeting expressed confidence in the way the Government was dealing with th ’ matter.
In Parliament, the Prime Minister answered a question as to whether it wa.s proposed to call a three-party conference ,or further consideration of the whole question of unemployment insurance, now the interim report bad been published. He said it was not intended to call such a conference.
The Minister of Labour, Miss Margaret Bondfield, answering a question, said the amount of Treasury advances to the Unemployment Insurance Fund to date was A85.62U.01K), leaving unexhausted balance borrowing powers of £4,380,000. That was likely to boexhausted early in July, and further provision would be necessary before that time".
