(By Telcyraph—Per Press Association)
WELLINGTON, June 9
Fiirther suggestions as the basis ror a settlement of the Public Works Tminellers’ dispute were made by the representative of the Workers’ Union at a conference with the Public Works Departmental engineers yesterday, but these were not accepted by the Cabinet. Mr Forbes stated to-day that the men had suggested a compromise on the basis of the Arbitration Court’s ten per cent. cut. The men had also asked for an extension of time to resume work. Mr Forbes added: “The position still is that if the men do not resume by Thursday, their places will be filled by others.”
