At a temperance lecture up North the other night, the lecturer related how, years before, lie had signed the pledge, and later decided tc give up smoking. “And when 1 told my wife/’ he said, pointing to a large lady ol somewhat forbidding aspect, who was seated on the platform, “that 1 would • never smoke again, she threw her arms around my neck and kissed me.” Came a voice from the back benches: “And serve you jolly well right!’’ (Roars of laughter) Rut there was no need for the gentleman to abandon his pipe. There's nothing wrong with smoking. It’s the tobacco that- it so often wrong. Poisonous with nicotine. The imported tobaccos are almost invariably like that. But no one need give up smoking if they smoke our famous New Zealand toasted leaf. The toasting purifies and cuts out the nicotine, leaving it sweet, cool, fragrant and—note this—perfectly harmless. There are only four brands of toasted: Riverhead Gold, Navy' Cut No. 3, Cavendish and Cut Plug No. 10.
