WELLINGTON, dime G. The Government has had uude r consideration the question as to how the goods should be dealt with which left Canada before the recent tariff alterations took effect. The Prime Minister stated that in the ordinary course, tariff changes came into operation immediately after their announcement, but the recent changes are due to special circumstances, which warrant a departure from the. usual procedure. “Therefore,” he said, “it has now be e n decided that all goods the pier duce or manufacture of Canada, whi c h were exported from that country for New Zealand before the 2nd June, 1931, will be admitted at the rates ol duty in force immediately prior to that date.” • This means that the new rates will not be charged on any Canadian goods now in bonded warehouses, or which left panada for New Zealand before the 2nd of June. If any duty fl as been overpaid it wil] be refunded upon application to the Collector of Customs at the port at which the duty was paid. AUCKLAND, June 0. Representatives of forty-two firms affected bv the Government's increased tariff on Canadian imports decided on action designing to heal the breach between the two Governments.
