TO-NIGHT AND TUESDAY

“STRICTLY UNCONVENTIONAL”

Humor on the screen is so often confined to the slapstick, that the appeal - ance of- a mature, intelligent and y e -' thoroughly funny drawing-room comedy is something to write home about. Such a work is “Strictly Unconventional, which Mdtro-Goldwyn-Mayer adapted from W. Somerset Maugham’s play, “The Circle,” and is now presenting at the Princess Theatre.

Whether the brilliance of this satire on marriage is due to the excellent performances of its all-star cast which boasts of such well-known screen and theatrical name's as Lewis Stone, Ernest Torrence, Catherine Dale Owen, Ah" son Skipworth, Mary Forbes, Tyrell Davis and Paul Cavanagh, or whether to its riotous situations and clever Jia logue, is hard to tell since the who. • thing has been so shrewdly bound together in the capable direction of Pav id Burton. To be sure, both director and cast had splendid material to work with in the first place, but “Strictly Unconventional,” although it follows the general outlines of Mnughan’is i Btage hit, turns out to be an improvement over the original in that the camera has been used to illustrate situations which the limitations of the stage made possible. Also Pathe Magazine, Metrotone News, Comedy and Colortone Revue.
