IRISH SWEEP
BRITISH PREMIER’S OBJECTION. [United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph. —Copyright.] LONDON, May 31’. The Prime Minister is almost the only Briton who expresses an nitei lack of interest in the Irish Sweepstake. When interviewed at Lossiemouth by the ‘‘Daily Herald, ’ he condemned, what lie termed the sweepstake craze as being a terri-b;c dangei to the morale of the country, and said Id was time that someone spoke out. It was appalling to think that two and a-half millions had been subscribed at a time'when money ought to bo used to help British industry, instead of pandering to the gambling spirit which was sweeping o\er the country. Asked whether the Government •were contemplating any action, he said: “We are always considering it but the difficulty is to know where to begin.”
