THOUGTHS OF THE TIMES.

THE CHURCH’S OPPORTUNITY. The Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, when speaking at the opening of new classrooms in the Baptist Church, Auckland, said it was no use putting all the blame on politicians for the existence of social and other evils. Greater than the politicians were those who monied public opinion, and thus made the passing of statutes and the enforcement of them possible. “In that respect,” lie said, “the Christian Church has great opportunity for creative and constructive work.” Touching upon the world-wide depression, the Minister said it was only by the soul of the people that a nation could rise above difficulty and disaster. The indomitable spirit of the British, quickened by the consciousness of a great mission, would surmount the difficulties of the present day.
