810 INCREASE RECORDED. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 30. For the week ended May 25th., the number of unemployed registered throughout the Dominion totalled 40,507. Compared with the 39.043 registered in the previous week, there is an apparent increase of 954. Returns supplied hv the Labour Minister show that, although the new and renewed applications for work totalled only 3379. yet during the week, no fewer than 24,329 men qualified and were placed in work under the Unemployment Board’s Number Five Scheme, which meant that the leal increase for the week was 5385. thus leaving 16.178 men still unemployed.
