A DECIDED SPLIT. United Pre»« Association— By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright ) (Received 12.5 p.m.) ROME, May rr. Addressing Cardinals and others, the Pope protesting against Italian authorities attitude to Cathode organisations, declared the Italian Press were left free to prepare a campaign based on falsehood. while the rnol) resorted to violence, often accompanied by bloodshed against our unarmed, outnumbered sons and daughters. The present Italian educational system opposed Christian educat on and was inductive to hatred, irreverence and violence.
The Pope later conferred with the Cardinals concerning the dispute at Rome and breach between Italy and the Vatican that had so widened that neutral observers were of opinion, the Government must either disband the action of society, or compel the Vatican to limit the Society’ activities to purely religious matters. Yesterday’s events, particularly the orderin gof Fascist prelects throughout Italy to disband Catholic young mens clhs at their discretion .is taken to indicate that the superior powers of 1* ascist were doterinncd once and for all to settle the action of the society’s status. Fascists claim the society placed itself in direct opposition to the State since political parties apart from Fascists are not allowed in Italy. The Vatican denies that the society is ineddVne in politics.
