U.S. LOAN ISSUE. BILLION AND HALF DOLLARS. (United Press Association. —By Electric Teleg raph.—Copyrignt. J WASHINGTON, May 28. Following upon 'a. report by the United States Treasury Department that the deficit had passed the billion dollar mark, responsible sources intimated that a long-term bond issue, the largest issue since the war time, would be put upon the market. “Liberty loans would be resorted to unless theie is a sharp improvement in the business outlook during the next two weeks.
The Treasury statement showed that with the ordinary receipts declining to tlie extent of 560 million dollars duiing the current fiscal year the Government expenditure had exceeded the receipts by one million 792 thousand 431 dollars a? on the 26th of May, and this trend is expected to be continued to a point where the deficit total on the 15th of June, is contemplated to be neat one billiqn fi v e hundred million dollars.
