N.S.W. FLOODS
WATERS RISING, (Australian Press Association.) (Received this day at 10.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, May 29. Flood waters hacking up in the main street of C'anmain to a height of two feet were instrumental in saving a large, block of houses and shops from destruction by fire-. A cottage wa.s gutted but a bucket brigade standing knee deep in water prevented tli t > flames spreading- Almost every river in the State is in flood. Yesterday the 'position cased off in coastal rivers north of the Hunter River. Further rain, however, is predicted. A cyclone raged between Lord Howe Island and Jabo at I’amworth River, and marooned many people. Police rescued forty in boats, including three women and fourteen- children. Heavy floods are- feared at Wng«a. Farmers’ homers in the Coolamon district are flooded. The main street of Übgarie is under wafer. FOOD RELIEF FRAUDS. SYDNEY. May 29. The acting-Premier, Mr Baddeley, in the Legislative Assembly stated that since May Ist food relief inspectors revealed tw’elve- thousand unsatisfactory cases. There had been glaring instances of fraud and the appointment of inspectors wa.s justified.
