THOUGHTS OF THE TIMES.
EDUCATION COSTS AND SERVICE. I do not dispute the value of free education to a reasonable standard, nor would I for one moment suggest its discontinuance, but when we have tacked on to a free primary education a free secondary education, an almost free technical education., free domestic science education, free training of teachers, free text-hooks, free stationery, free travelling (or it there is no travelling available to be had free, a cash allowance in its place),, free medical and dental advice, and 1 , so on, it makes me wonder just where it is all going to end. Past experience seems to indicate that a quickly mounting cost is no deterrent, —Australian Critic.
