])i- Henson, Bishop of Durham, preaching at Scarborough, said that lie had for fearing that in a few years’ time, a grave deterioration of the English character would begin to show itself. Unemployment to-day existed over a large area of the national lire. It was damaging the self respect of vast multitudes of the people. There was growing up in the industrial districts, he said, a generation to whom idleness was the normal state of life, and to whom regular work was the exception.
