A reminder is given of the continuation or tne auction sale to-morrow (Wednesday; afternoon at 2 o’clock by .Viesors iVI. Houston and Co. or -Mr A. C. stock or crockery, glassware and household ironmongery. There is a long list of articles to- be sold, and an entire clearance must be effected,

Veitoli, to a reporter at Christchurch. “'Hie public can be assured that goou sensible men will be appointed, and that they will give them assistance wherever possible. -Their job will be difficult- enough even in favourable conuitiuns.”
Ngauruhoo has been move than usually active during the past ten day*, but now appears to be quietening down again, says the “New Zealand Heiald. ’ For a few days last week there were loud rumblings, which were heard distinctly at the Clnfteau and, although the noises have ceased, there is still a heavy pall of smoke over the mountain. The activity last week was accompanied by disorder oi anotiiei description. A violent gale swept down from the mountain, the Chateau being in the centre of the wind’s path. One of the large plate-glass windows in the lounge was blown out, and a- few sheets of the asbestos roofing were lifted. No other damage was done, and no one was injured. The gale raged for 18 hours.
