POSTMASTER’S THEFT,

AUCKLAND, May 25.

William Richard Holmes, 46, postmaster at Mt. Eden was charged at the Police Court with stealing £SO, the property of tho Postmaster General, and was remanded to June Bth. The police said he had admitted his defalcations were £6OO. Bail was fixed at £SOO.

For undertaking the cure of venereal disease for payment, when they were not registered medical practitioners, John Howard William Tapp 28, a dealer, and Erie Phillip Tapp 27, a ■signwriter, were fined £lo each, in default one month's gaol by Magistrate Mosley.

M’Lean, who was a Lieutenant-Colonel in the New Zealand Medical Corps, was given a military funeral on Saturday afternoon. The coffin was carried on n gun carriage drawn by five horses from the garrison artillery. The firing party comprised non-eommissoined officers of the permanent staff. The service at the h me was con ’u: ted by the Rev s J. R. Blanchard and Dr. James Gibb. A large number of people attended the funeral, including Sir Donald M Gavin. Sir John Luke, several leading members of the medical profession and prominent business men.
