WORLD’S WHEAT

The result of the World's Wheat Conference will be the establishment of a Secretariat, representing all the wheat exporting countries, to continue the exploration of the problems which the Conference has found to be existing. The present conditions are due to a general world trad© slump. Some coun_ tries are producing more wheat than could be adsorbed. GERMAN FINANCE. (Received this day at 8 a.in.) LONDON, May 24. According to reports from Germany, Herr Bruening and Herr Curtins when at Chequers on 6th June intend to press for a reduction of reparations payments. Germany expects a deficit of fifty million sterling at the end of the current financial year. M. BRIAND. PARIS, May 24. M. Laval visited M. Briand and begged him to reconsider his decision to resign. M. Briand promised to reply to Cabinet on Wednesday. GERMAN COMMUNISTS. (Received this day'at 8 a.m.) BERLIN, May 2 Essen Communists barricaded the streets, smashed windows and stoned •the police, who were ordered to fire. One Communist was killed. PROPOSED SOCCER CUP. LONDON. May 24. The International Football Federation has decided to inaugurate a world soccer championship, on lines of the Davis Cup, to be played every four years, sixteen winners in various zones, meeting at one centre and producing a week’s matches. England won’t be represented, owing to the broken time dispute, and also a refusal to agree to replacing players during a match, SPEED MANIA. LONDON, May 23. A message from Rome says that the attitude of the British Government in regard to the efficiacy of the race foi the Schneider Trophy is endorsed by a report presented in the Italian Senate. The report points out that the race, served its object when the speed of the winning plane was increased from 120 miles an hour. Now, however, valuable lives were risked unnecessarily. The report declares that no safe engine developing more than 700 h.p. has vet been invented.
