FARMERS’ UNION

PALMERSTON NORTH, May 22The inter-Pruvincial Conference of the Farmers’ Union concluded to-day.
Regarding petrol taxation, the C’otifennee was of opinion that the rural taxpayer i.s unable financially to meet the present- high cost of road maintenance. The Government should be asked to enact legislation, which would enable the cost to he met by the user, per medium of petrol tax. A proposal that branches set up advisory committees’ for the purpose o' giving first-hand advice to intending farmers was adopted, the chairman statink that the proposal offered the Union an opportunity of doing good work.
Support was not given to the Chamber o' Commerce proposal for a reduction of the number of the members of Parliament.
A protest is to be lodged with the woolbrokers at the speed at which wool sales are conducted,
