HOPEFUL OUTLOOK. FOR NATIONAL AGREEMENT. (Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 21. A more hopeful phase in the coal situation %va« discussed by 'the Executive of the Miners’ Federation at London to-day. They considered letters trom the Coal Owners’ Association winch stated that powers were being sought from the districts for the negotiation on a national basis for a uettleiuent both on the matters of wages and hours. Hitherto the coal owners have adhered to the view that the wages could he discussed and dittlod only in the districts, according to varying circumstances. and local requirements. Mr A. J. Cook, the Miners’ Secretary, after the Executive n/eting, said that they would do everything in their power to facilitate the success of the negotiations, so that peaeje in the mining industry might he secured.
