PALMERSTON NORTH, May 21. Mr Poison, Dominion president of the (Farmer's Union, addressed the inter-provincial conference imic.-i, stating that he thought there was sure to ho a revision of taxation in t lie near future. Referring to tbe suggestion made m quarters of repudiation of debts, Mr Poison sMd Llmt m a British country like New Zealand that could not be considered. J iioy would have to tighten their belts and face their obligations. Air Poison considered that the deficit would be at least £6,000,000 despite the economy measures, There u ill probably he an additional taxation of £2,000,000.
Socialistic remedies could not assist. The executive of the Farmer’s I’nion is urging the fusion of moderate political elements in the country provided it was reasonably and equitably applied. The new taxation threatened would have to be viewed moderately. Air Pofson stated that now was the time to push on the campaign for an agriculture banking institution. Had such a concern been deeply rooted, fanners would have been able to secure finance to stave off the. interest demands and amortisation payments.
