The “Telegraph’s” Canberra correspondent says intense secrecy is being maintained by Opposition Senators as to the purport of the cryptic statement by Sir George Pearce in the Senate :* * IJ' the Government insists on bringing (.[own successive regulations under the Transport Workers Act, to replace those disallowed by the Senate, tin l Opposition will make use of constitutional powers which it possesses, which liad previously been withheld. It was learned to-night, however, that what Sir G. Pearce had in mind, was the undoubted power •of the Senate to reject supply. Although the Government has supply until 30th June, it- is only a lew weeks hetore a further appropriation will be submitted. In moving a motion for the adjournment, Sir G. Pearce warned the Government to take stock of tlie constitution and consider whether it had not pursued the present procedure I'ar enough. If the Government continues to adopt its present procedure it might find the Senate lias resources other than those it has used so far. The Gov> eminent should not force the Senate to take the action which is within its power and which might have unexpected results. MR LANG. SYDNEY, May 21. Premier Lang announced he will attend the Premiers Conference at Melbourne next Monday. i N.S.W. INDEBTEDNESS. CANBERRA, May 21. The united oposition parties informed Mr Scitllin that they would give him a definite reply to his invitation for a parliamentary conference. No decision was reached yesterday, however, although the parties met to consider their reply. The decision was delayed because a lack of time for discussion prevented unanimity being reached on the choice of several conditions that were suggested.
