Sir John Simon (Liberal), expressed the opinion that there was a vital cl [foreneo between the Liberal land tax proposals of 1909 ami Air Snowden's present scheme. The former proposals sought to exact by tax the increment m the value when land changed hands, out he tailed to see the justification for a Hat tax on all land, whatever its use.
Rt. Hon Mr Graham, replying to Sir A. Chamberlain’s amendment, said the Mill was designed to appeal to all sorts of tax payers. The debt of the Unemployment Fund rose from four and a-hnlf millions to thirty-seven millions between the years 1924 and 1929, but Mr Churchill "did not relate that fact in his budgets. As the result of the experiment, Mr Snowden had sought the simplest land tax scheme possible. Sir A. Chamberlain’s amendment was negatived by 270 votes to 230,
