RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) MONDAY, MAY 18th. It has been said that only an Italian, can do full justice to- the famous patter song “Largo al Factotum,” from Rossini’s “Barber of Seville” one of the songs to be filing by Signor Lucien Cfesaro'nj 'this evening at 2YA. Signor Cesar on i will also sing “Leporello’s Humorous Ariette” (from “Don Juan”) by Mozart and “Within these Sacred Bowers” by the- same composer. Among other operatic numbers, the favourite “Miserere” (from “II Trovatore”) will be sung with piano ana organ accompaniment. Another outstanding feature of the programme will be the performance of Liszt’s brilliant piano “Concerto in E. Flat” with full orchestral accompaniment. This will be played by Miss Mnry Lennie, L.T.C.L., and Miss Lalla Vonderslo'ot, L.A.B, respectively.. The Christchurch Municipal Band (under Conductor J. Noble) will provide the instrumental portion of 3YA’s programme. The singers will he Mrs Nellie Whitworth (mezzo-corftralto), Mr Sydney Hood (bass) and Mr Adam S. Mitchell (a ter.or who will make his first radio appearance). 4YA will be brondcsting the second instalment of the International Programmes. Sir James Allen will be the speaker. His subject will be “Organisations that are working for international goodwill.” TUESDAY, MAY 10th. Mr A. B. Thomson, baritone, an artistic singer of classical songs, will be heard from IYA this evening. He lias included amongst bis numbers two songs by Brahms, “Sunday”, and “Serenade.” Reg. Morgan and His orchestra will supply the instrumental | ! portion of the programme and will also provide -the dance music. This evening introduces a new series to ]Y v listeners—a sonata for piano and violin—a type of work which is very seldom beard. The two artists engaged for this work are Miss Maida Hooker (oiinniste) and Mr Haydn Murray (violinist). Miss Berta Carr, mezzo-soprano, will s> n g three solos. The 2YA Salon Orchestra will pbiy tin' overture “Maid of the East,’’ a waltz “Magic of Love,” a selection “N-'uticnl Scenes,” a bell solo with orchestral accompaniment “Cloches de ;St. Male,” a novelty suite, “Dolls’ T- T nuce” mid the latest dance novelties. A feature of th e evening will he the one-act comedy entitled “Fortune Favours Fools’’ arranged and produced by Mr Norman Aitken. Also on this programme will be Mr 'Sydney • Francis’ Hobe»,■ ■ pimi ist, • who will be beard in a lecture- recital... Mr Richard Maunder, lyric tenor, will again delight listeners.
