PALMER'S WIN

(Australian Press Association)

SYDNEY, May 17

At the Sydney Stadium last night, 12,“00 people crammed the building to witness the classic contest of fifteen rounds, between Ambrose Palmer < 11.10). the middleweight champion of Australia and Hgi'inan Bundren (11.6) the American. The first six rounds were not spectacular. Herman was the taller man. •Ho was anxious to get- his opponent’s measure. Palmer after the sixth round began to force the issue. He evaded Herman’s solid lefts by clever smothering and excellent ringcraft. Palmer continued to be aggressive to the end of the contest. The crowd many times counted out the American who.was kept continually on the defensive, and was clinching. He seemed to be bent on getting a knockout, and nothing else. Palmer fell out of the ring on one occasion, and on two other occasions he fell on the canvass. The contest which was rather a onesided. one, was a little disappointing. It was. all in favour pf Palmer, who was awarded the. decision on polnw. Among the preliminaries in a ten rounds bout, Bobbie Stone (9.9) knock ed out Glen Urquhart (9.8). of New Zealand, in the sixth round. Jack Haines, the former middleweight champion, who nearly died after his fight- with Ambrose Palmer some months ago. was introduced, fie receive an ovation from the huge crowd. -
