AUCTIONEERS’ CHARGE

RESENTED BY SHEEPSKIN BUYERS. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) TIMARU, May ID. The disposal of twenty thousand sheep skins was held up in Timaru this morning as the result of a deadlock developing between the buying representatives of Christchurch, Timaru, Oamaru and Dunedin firms, and the Southland and Canterbury Auctioneers’ Association. The b livers refused to operate, liecause the Auctioneers’ Association declined to rebate the delivery charge ol Is per 100 skins, which has always been levied at this centre. At previous sales, six months ago the buyers announced that they would not tie operating at the next auction unless the Association remitted its charge. When the brokers and the buyers assembled for the sale this morning, Mr J. Todd, on behalf of the buyers asked the Chairman of the Auctioneers’ Association for its decision in regard to the delivery fee. Mr C. E. Shallcrass. the chairman, replied that the Association intended to adhere to the charge, although it was pointed out that Timaru was the only centre at which it was made.

The buyers thereupon held n meeting, and they unanimously decided not to proceed with the sale. ' * The Auctioneers’ Association will meet at an early date to decide what steps should be taken.
