LONG SERVICE

RAILWAY OFFICIALS RETIRE. ■ WELLINGTON, May 13. Mr W. H. Morgan, stationmaster at Thorn-don, who is retiring shortly would have completed forty years’ service in December next. Mr Morgan joined the service in Christchurch in December, 1891. After being stationed at Wnimate and Christchurch he was transferred to Ashburton. In 1893 he wjxs appointed relieving telegraphist until 1897, when he was transferred to the Christchurch booking office. Later he went as assistant relieving officer for a period of two years. He was appointed stationnmster at Coalgate in 1905. Mr Morgan was trans erred to. the Christchurch goods department in 1910 and was in charge of the intercolonial and cotfstal shipping for nine years. From there he was appointed chief goods clerk and chief passenger clerk in turn at Auckland. Then he was transferred as stationmaster at Marton, where he remained until he was appointed stationmaster at Thorndon in 1925. He intends to take up his residence in Christchurch. Mr R. D. Scott, stationmaster at Lambton, has retired on superannuation. He served thirty-eight years .with the railways, joining the service in the manager’s office at Christchurch in August, 1893. He was transferred to head office, Wellington, in November, 1895, and returned to Christchurch three , years later, remaining there until 1904, when he was appoint, ed stationmaster at Heriot.. He : later served as stationmaster at Wnslulyke and as relieving officer in the Invercargill district. He was transferred to Picton in 1913 and acted a s chief clerk until 1922’, when he was promoted in a similar capacity at Onmaru. He was transferred to the position of stationmaster at Lambton in March, 1925.
