FAILURE TO REGISTER

WELLINGTON, May 15
Two Italian fishmongers, S a lvatom Destefan and Bartollo Destefan. were prosecuted to-day fry the Labour He partmeut for failing to register under the terms of the Unemployment Act. It wag the first case since the introduction of the new legislation. Both admitted tile offence and each were fined £2. It was stated the men were un naturalised, and when interviewed by a Constable, told him they thought they were not compelled to registw as they were not British subjects. V was very difficult to trace people who had failed to register. The Magistrate asked why these two unnaturalised Italians had se 1 noted for a prosecution of this kin'" and the answer given was that the*were men brought under the Department’s notice.
