David Belasco Dian, the American theatrical producer, died at New York this afternoon at the Hotel Gladstone, where lie was ill for many months. He was aged seventy-seven and his death is attributed to an heart attack. NEW YORK. May 14. A message from Akron (Ohio) states.’ —A balloon has been prepared there lor the Wilkins-Ellsworth expedition for use in communicating the location of the submarine to the Graf Zeppelin on their contemplated meeting at the North Pole this summer. The balloon will be attached to or near the submarine and allowed to ascent three or four thousand feet to surmount tho clouds should there he a low ceiling. The balloon is about twelve feet in diameter and has a lift of thirty-five pounds sufficient to carry it aloft bv a fine wire by which it will be held captive.

SILVER TRADING. NEW YORK, May 14. The rules of the laws for trading in silver futures has been approved by the Board of Governors of the National Metal Exchange Incorporated. Members will vote on May 25th on the proposed amendments to the by-laws that will provide for trading in silver futures. The market, which will he the only one of its kind in the world, will open for trading on June 14th. The first delivery will be for the- month of August. The contract unit for silver futures will he twenty-five thousand ounces of ninety-nine decimal nine per cent, finesse. Only bar silver hearing an approved brand or marking will he deliverable., it is expected that the market will be utilised extensively by banks and others for hedging silver commitments.
