ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGE. (By Teley.-aph—Per Press Association) HAMILTON. May 13. The trial of Reginald Thomas Norman Richards, aged 35. charged with the attempted murder, at Kaipaki, on April 10th of Arthur Ross iter' aged 82. opened at the Magistrate’s Court at Hamilton. Olive May Rossiter, daughter of deceased, told of her engagement to accused. Prisoner gave her a ring but the engagement was broken off when he made no effort to find her a home. On March 16 she left for a holiday at Tauranga where Richards followed and stayed at the same house, prisoner occupying a tent outside. While in her room, accused hit her over the head with a spanner. made in n.z. PALMERSTON NORTH, May 13. A large enthusiastic meeting under the auspices of the “New Zealander, ’ (William Thomson, editor), was held last night, the Mayor in the chair. The speakers were councillors Cameron, Clausen, Free, and the Editor of the j “New Zealander.”
The meeting demanded that all coach and motor bodies, farm implements, and dairy requisites he made in New Zealand, which would give steady employment to quite 8,000 more men thnu were employed now. Resolutions to the above effect were passed unanimously. THE ACCUSED. HAWERA, May 13. Tinsley, charged at- Masteron vvitli the murder of Chhiba at Hawem, came from Johnsonville to Hawera early in January. From January 17th until three weeks ago. when he left for Masterton .lie was employed by a local baker. His wife did not accompany him to Hawera. hut arrived here later, leaving again after a brief stay. He hoarded at an hotel, a short distance from Chhiba’s shop.
