DUNEDIN BURGLARY
WOMAN INJURED. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) DUNEDIN, My 11. A burglary took place to-night at Rossiter’s second-hand shop, next to the European Hotel in Dunedin. There are understood to have been three men involved, one of whom attacked a woman in the place, she being so muon injured that the ambulance bad to be requisitioned to remove her for medical attenion. The police were called, and they made a couple of arrests, and at midnight were still scouting for a third person supposed to have been im. plicated. Burglary i s on the increase in the city. LATER. The woman injured was Mrs Rossi ter. The would-be burglars knocked at the door, and gagged Mr Ross iter when lie opened it. The woman heard a scuffle, and came to the door, when she was struck on the head witn a hard instrument. Later she was found with her face covered in blood and one of her eye s very seriously injured. One of the men went rrp' a fire escape to the adjoining hotel roof, where the police captured him.
FI7IITH ER PA RTIC UJ. A US. Further particulars state: 0. Veiinall, a watchmaker on the other side of the street, heard the noise and rushed over, armed with a screwdriver. He forced an entry and one man hotted upstairs. The other readied for a weapon but Vennall intimidated him. When the police arrived they secured the captured man. who is about 3d. an Englishman, who lias been in New Zealand for a few years. The other man had apparently jumped from an upstairs window to adjoining premises, dropping thence to the street in the Octagon and so far has not been traced. THE BURGLAR CHARGED. DUNEDIN. May 12. Robert Saunders, aged 3(5, a native of England, appeared at the Police Court, charged with assaulting Walter Gabriel Rossitter, with intent to rob. He was remanded for 8 days.
