NEW ZEALAND TOUR. AGAINST LEICESTER. (Special to Press Association). LONDON, May 11. New Zealand crick .ts declared with eight wickets for 434. Leicestershire had an hour before lunch. The weather was dull a nd attendance moderate. Page obtained a sterling century in 230 minutes, hitting with greater freedom than on Saturday and scoring well on the off. He was caught at cover in trying to force the pace. Weir batted steadily. Lowry and Talbot went in for hard hitting, the latter being particularly vigorous on Geary. Dawson gave Leicestershire a good start before being caught at covet. Merritt then claimed a wicket from Berry and Armstrong shortly before lunch. Shipman batted solidly for fifty-eight when lie was beaten by a good ball from Merritt. Astill and Riley gave sound displays and Coleman used the long handle effectively SidwelL and Snary made a great effort to avoid a follow on, failing by eight runs. The innings closed rpr 277. New Zealand bowling whs steady. Cromb anj Merritt bowled twentyeight overs, ana Weir 34. Cromb made a highly satisfactory, start turning from the off occasionally and maintaining a good length,; Ho bowled ten maidens.

The South African Cricket Boai<! has cabled to Australia for four alternatives as follows: (1) The cancellation of the Australian tour of the South Africans; (2) that Australia shall he responsible for all ot the South African expenses: (3) the Australians to tour South Africa; and (4) that neither country send a team. The commercial community here is unanimously in favour of the abandon ment of the tour.on the ground that at present the touring of spoil is being overdone. With this the Cape and Natal cricketers agree.
The Transvaal, on - the other hand, desires the Australians to tour South Africa
